I just love this set! When I first started I was a little clueless as to where I wanted to go with it,but I just love the end product!

Up for your kind consideration is absolutely yummy 2 piece sample set,ready to ship in a size 4T-5T, possibly a 6 (please refer to mesurements provided for a better idea of fitting)
My model is a solid 5T for better reference
Includes:
*Peasant style top with ruffle trim.
Upper chest area and sleeves have been made using the sweet cherry print on a pink background and the lower portion & ruffle, I have used a white on white floral print.
Neckline has a rolled hem and has a few rows of shirring as well as the sleeves to add to the daintiness of the overall look.
3 rows of shirring around upper chest area where the cherry print meets the white.
*Double layer,full patchwork twirl.
I've handcut several,5 X 5 inch squares from 4 different coordinating prints to provide fullness of this skirt, a simple twirl will certainly bring this skirt to life.
The top layer has been trimmed with all 4 prints and the underskirting has been created using an light weight,white fabric and trimmed with an eyelet ruffle.
To add to the playfulness, I've sewn a white ruffle rac trim to the red and white gingham squares.

Finally, some breathing room!!!

CPSC Grants One Year Stay of Testing and Certification Requirements for Certain Products

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission voted unanimously (2-0) to issue a one year stay of enforcement for certain testing and certification requirements for manufacturers and importers of regulated products, including products intended for children 12 years old and younger. These requirements are part of the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA), which added certification and testing requirements for all products subject to CPSC standards or bans.

Significant to makers of children’s products, the vote by the Commission provides limited relief from the testing and certification requirements which go into effect on February 10, 2009 for new total lead content limits (600 ppm), phthalates limits for certain products (1000 ppm), and mandatory toy standards, among other things. Manufacturers and importers – large and small – of children’s products will not need to test or certify to these new requirements, but will need to meet the lead and phthalates limits, mandatory toy standards and other requirements.

The decision by the Commission gives the staff more time to finalize four proposed rules which could relieve certain materials and products from lead testing and to issue more guidance on when testing is required and how it is to be conducted.

The stay will remain in effect until February 10, 2010, at which time a Commission vote will be taken to terminate the stay.

The stay does not apply to:
Four requirements for third-party testing and certification of certain children’s products subject to:
The ban on lead in paint and other surface coatings effective for products made after December 21, 2008;
The standards for full-size and non full-size cribs and pacifiers effective for products made after January 20, 2009;
The ban on small parts effective for products made after February 15, 2009; and
The limits on lead content of metal components of children’s jewelry effective for products made after March 23, 2009.

Certification requirements applicable to ATV’s manufactured after April 13, 2009.
Pre-CPSIA testing and certification requirements, including for: automatic residential garage door openers, bike helmets, candles with metal core wicks, lawnmowers, lighters, mattresses, and swimming pool slides; and
Pool drain cover requirements of the Virginia Graeme Baker Pool & Spa Safety Act.
The stay of enforcement provides some temporary, limited relief to the crafters, children’s garment manufacturers and toy makers who had been subject to the testing and certification required under the CPSIA. These businesses will not need to issue certificates based on testing of their products until additional decisions are issued by the Commission. However, all businesses, including, but not limited to, handmade toy and apparel makers, crafters and home-based small businesses, must still be sure that their products conform to all safety standards and similar requirements, including the lead and phthalates provisions of the CPSIA.

Handmade garment makers are cautioned to know whether the zippers, buttons and other fasteners they are using contain lead. Likewise, handmade toy manufacturers need to know whether their products, if using plastic or soft flexible vinyl, contain phthalates.
The stay of enforcement on testing and certification does not address thrift and second hand stores and small retailers because they are not required to test and certify products under the CPSIA. The products they sell, including those in inventory on February 10, 2009, must not contain more than 600 ppm lead in any accessible part. The Commission is aware that it is difficult to know whether a product meets the lead standard without testing and has issued guidance for these companies that can be found on our web site.

The Commission trusts that State Attorneys General will respect the Commission's judgment that it is necessary to stay certain testing and certification requirements and will focus their own enforcement efforts on other provisions of the law, e.g. the sale of recalled products.

So I got no sleep last night.Up until about 4 am this morning,unable for the life of me to fall asleep.....not so great for the designing aspect of my life, nor the domestic goddess in me, or any other part of my busy,every day life of being a Stay at Home/Work at Home Mom.

I sooooo just want to lie back down and have a little more shut eye BUT,as all of us mom's know...NOT GONNA HAPPEN! LOL! My daughter is terrorizing the blinds 2 feet away from me, as I type, thinking of what we'll have for lunch,and play a game of "I Looove my Maadiii, I Looove my Mooommyy" with my 3 year old going on 15....no time for rest in this house! HA!

Anyway, being as I've accomplished pretty much nothing today thus far today, I did want to share with you a few things while my sleep deprived mind allows me....

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Ok, so I guess I'm a little late with the New Year but, better late than never...I guess. ;)

I can't believe the holidays have come and gone so quickly and we're already into 2009! Seems like time is flying by.

I'm taking my Spring designs in a whole new direction.As you can see from the pic below of my "Bohemian Dream" dress, I'm leaving behind a bit of the whimsy and going for a more Boho/ Flea Market Chic style & lots of color for the season....of course minus the tights and fur lined boots, though this is just a sneek peek.

Also, I'm proud to announce the 3rd launch in progress for Peppermint Lane....

Even though I'm not a fan of the cooler weather,I do really enjoy the colors, smells, and gatherings with family & friends that come along with the Fall and Winter season's.I also get so much inspiration when it comes to designing new custom outfits.All the beautiful, rich colors of Fall and the whimsy and magic of Winter.Both season's just leave so much to the imagination when it comes to designing an outfit.The possibilities always seem endless!

Please tell us a little about yourself....
Hello~ My name is Gillian- Let me start by saying I am honored to have been chosen for the designer interview this week! YEAH!

OK-- A little about me~ I am a mother of 3 beautiful children-- My oldest son is 15. I have another son who is 10 and my daughter Laycee is 7. I married my high school sweetheart. I went directly into nursing school from high school and have been a Registered Nurse since the age of 19-- SCARY~ I can't imagine how I handled a job like that at 19-- But here I am-- still at it! I work full time as a nurse but my true passion is fashion design and sewing! I just LOVE IT!

How long have you been designing?
I have been playing with sewing and design off and on since high school-- Never took it really serious until my daughter was born. I didn't sell my first design until about 2 1/2 years ago-- And well now.... lets just say i am addicted!

What inspires you as a designer?
I think my biggest inspiration as a designer is my daughter-- I just love shopping with her and looking at fashion online and thinking-- "wow! I can make that!"

What is your favorite item to create? Why?
HMMMMMMM........ My favorite?? I am going to have to say deco jeans~ Patchwork style with all of the frayed edges. I just love to use up all of those fabric scraps and see what i can come up with! Almost anything goes with deco-- its so fun!

What are your favorite materials/fabrics to work with?
I am going to have to say plaids-- I just love plaid~ And well there are so many fabric lines that I just adore I could never name them all!

What is your favorite thing to do when not sewing/designing?
Outside of designing-- I would have to say i enjoy most of all my family-- I LOVE to travel~ even if its just a short road trip for the day.

First and foremost, I am a SAHM to my 2 beautiful children, Hope and Dominick and a wife to my husband of 8 years, Pete. I discovered the world of custom boutique clothing and accessories when Hope was 2 years old and have been addicted ever since. Hope and I started doing some modeling for the wonderful designers on Ebay last year and we have had a lot of fun with it!

How long have you been into photography?
I became interested in photography at the moment my children were born. I suddenly realized that I wanted to keep a running record of every little look and smile. In fact, my husband and I didn't even own a camera until the day we brought Hope home from the hospital. The moment she fell asleep my husband rushed to the store to buy one so we could start taking pictures!

What inspires you as a photographer?
Although my children are my original inspiration, for me the process of learning how to take great pictures and of constantly improving is very personally satisfying. I really appreciate all of the tips and advice that are offerred by the other Ladies in the Group.

Where is your favorite place to take pictures?Why?
I definitely prefer to take pictures outdoors and probably my favorite place is a local nursery and garden center. The center is open every year from spring until Christmas. The owners take care to decorate lavishly and appropriately for each season and best of all they are flattered that I sometimes choose to take pictures there.

What is your favorite thing to do when not shooting pictures?
I love playing with my children and spending time with my family. I also enjoy cooking and of course... scrapbooking all of those pictures!

My new friend Katie of http://www.katieskreations.etsy.com/ has taken it upon herself to join in the DC 3 day that she will be walking on October 3,4, and 5 of 2008. If you are unfamiliar with this fundraiser you can read more about it at: www.the3day.org. In a nutshell it is a 3 day 60 mile walk to raise funds for breastcancer. She has pledged to raise $2200 by that date. As of March 4th 2008, she has officially signed up and am now accepting donations.

There you can purchase the above pictured pendants and more to help support the cause.

This whole idea of doing the 3-day started with a fellow Etsyian who approached her to make some products for her own fundraiser. She is a lovely person who Katie admires for all of her fundraising efforts. She lost her cousin and grandmother to this terrible disease. Within 24 hours of her initial contact, Katie's own cousin (out of the blue) called her to ask if she would join her on this 60 mile journey. Seems like fate to me...said Katie,so here she is raising funds for to help find a cure for a horrible diesease that takes so many beautiful lives each year.

"I have one other driving force, being the mother of four beautiful healthy lovely little girls, I need to do all I can to ensure this disease never effects them. Hopefully, there will be a CURE in the not too distant future," says Katie.

I just love primitive decor.Theres just so much character in things such as old barn wood,weathered shutters, and tattered dolls & teddy bears (some of my favorites,among many others)....just makes me wonder what its been through and reminds of that saying,"If these walls could talk."

Shes been created with my warm,loving hands and heart from start to finish,including her frayed dress.Her poly-fil,muslin body has been tea stained and hand stitched in certain areas, to achieve the worn,tattered look. Liberty Ann's face ,striped stockings,boots, and little heart on her chest have all been hand painted and her wavy red yarn hair has been hand stitched and knotted to the top and back of her head and near her bum area,I've signed and dated her.Her birth date being 8-31-07 and she measures 16 1/2in. tall.

So,its been raining and a little chilly for like 4 days here now.Although I don't like the chill in the air...especially being as its August,I find the sound of the rain very relaxing..While sitting in my newly located sewing room ( small room that leads to our upper porch/balcony),I cracked the door to allow the soothing sound of the rain to pour in and began to sew.

Trying something new,I was inspired by my dining room,which is completely red,white,and blue Americana,primitive decor....I began to make these adorable Americana ornaments with a primitive look from fabric remnants,buttons,etc.After sewing and stuffing these little guys ,I then hand stitched and stained them,to give that older primitive feel.I was very pleased with the finished product.These hand crafted stars and hearts can be used as tree ornaments...whether its your Christmas tree,or just a decorative tree in your home year round or even as hanging shelf or wall decor.The possibilities are endless.

1.Stains drive me crazy.If I get a stain on any of my clothes that oxiclean or any other stain remover CAN'T remove...I'll never wear it again.

2.I HAVE to have baked beans when eating a burger.

3.Last year,I HATED baked beans...go figure!

4.I collect enamel ware...but, the splattered spoons are my favorite.

5.I crack,my fingers,toes,wrists, and back....man,I'm gonna pay for that down the road.

6.Just thinking of hairspray makes my head itch...but,when I was younger it was a necessity.

OK, so my little brother whom is 15 ,visited with us for the past 2 weeks while my younger son stayed with my mom in southern Maryland...which is about 2 and a 1/2 hours away from were we reside in western Maryland.So DH wakes me up this morning at 4 to get ready to take him home and pick up our son.I didn't fall asleep until after 11:30 and hes waking me up at 4 am....UGH!We load everyone up and head out onto the road early just to beat the heat and humidity...well as we're about 35-40 minutes away from Destination "Grandma's House", sleep deprived as I am mind you... just start bursting into laughter for no reason at all.DH looks at me.. I laugh.I say something...I laugh.Then I decide it'd be best if I turn my head and look out my window to keep from staring at DH so I don't laugh any more because at this point my sides hurt so bad from laughing I can't stand it.....and there I see this stupid sign that says "DRURY LANE" and I lose it!!! I'm like isn't that where the "MUFFIN" man lives???? and DH is cracking up saying,"I hope we don't get pulled over for any reason because they're gonna think you're on something or just plain crazy!!!" What a morning we had!I haven't laughed so much about nothing in my life!!

Although the beach was great,the kids had a blast, AND....it didn't rain this time either,its nice to be home!!Though DH and are talking of packing up and making "home" in Southern Maryland being as we both love it so much there.Plans are to move within a 6 month to a year time frame...depending of course on how long it'll take him and I to agree on the "perfect" house for our family.I'm so excited and its so laid back there.

Woo-hoooo!!! Going to the beach...leaving tomorrow and will return Monday!Finally some much needed one on one time with DH and some fun in the sun with the kiddos. Hopefully it won't rain on our parade this time (*fingers crossed*).... like it did last time.We have a birthday celebration to attend for my Nonnie...since its not polite to reveal a ladies "true" age we'll just say shes in her late 80's and very spunky!!I can only hope if and when I hit her age,I am the same.;)

Elvis LIVES!!! Can you Believe it!? The King has made an appearance in my ETSY shop....well....not exactly,but his memory is still alive since...I've added this adorable halter dress and headband set to my shop with the King of Rock-n-Roll himself printed all over it!!! This is one of my absolute favorite sets.My little rock-n-roll princess has this set in her closet and all the Ooohhhs and Ahhhss,has this Rock-n-roll Mama saying,"Thank you,Thank you vry much!!"(lol)

Today was my "big" show.I had lots of my handcrafted items on display at the Women's Oasis section of the Heart of Maryland Classic Chevy Club located at the Clarion in Hagerstown, Maryland, and I have to say,I'm so glad I had the oppertunity to be a part of this event.There were so many beautiful vehicles on display and the people were extremely friendly...and to top it all off,I had a small reunion with my Aunt and Uncle and I'd like to thank them for inviting me.

As my first ever public showing and sale of my hand-crafted items comes near...the 7th to be exact....butterflies gather in my tummy.I mean I've sold to locals before,but my items have never been on display for a crowd as large as expected for this function.All week long I've been telling all my fellow designers and friends,"I'm like a one woman sweatshop!"
